CAPENEWS.net – Audience members of the Sandwich Arts Alliance production of “Love, Loss and What I Wore” should prepare to laugh, cry and relate to characters according to director Melinda S. Gallant.
“Love, Loss and What I Wore” is a play written by Nora and Delia Ephron based off a novel of the same name written by Ilene Beckerman.
The play revolves around a woman named “Gingy,” played by Janet Geist Moore. The show opens with Gingy going through her paintings of various clothing items in her wardrobe. The paintings were created by Sandwich Arts Alliance artists, according to Ms. Gallant.
With each article of clothing, Gingy brings the audience to a specific time period of her life. For instance, a Brownie uniform brings up memories of Gingy’s childhood, while a dress may bring up memories of a past relationship.
Throughout the memories, Gingy speaks on experiences most women have encountered, such as being told by her mother “You would look so pretty, if you just put on some lipstick,” a line that Ms. Gallant admits she has said to her own daughter.
“This play hits every woman,” said Ms. Gallant.
“It just sounds like my grandmother and my mother and my whole family talking,” Ms. Geist Moore said.
The play also features memories brought on by Gingy’s friends, played by Liz Liuzzi, Kimberly Lajoie, Cathy Ode and Karin Henderson.
Ms. Gallant is working to “beef up” the Sandwich Arts Alliance’s performing arts program. This is the first year that a season for performing arts, which runs through the fiscal year, has been implemented.
According to Ms. Gallant, “Love, Loss and What I Wore” is one of the two to three plays that will be performed during the season. In addition to the plays, three musical performances and at least one storytelling night will also be featured during that period.
The play will be held on the Glass Town Stage at the historic Sandwich Town Hall and will run on the following dates:
Fridays, May 17 and May 24, at 7 PM; and Saturdays, May 18 and May 25, at 7 PM; and Sundays, May 19 and May 26 at 3 PM.
