McGRATHPR.com – The James Library & Center for the Arts, Norwell’s historic community arts center and lending library, presents Weekend Classics: The Borromeo String Quartet, in concerton Sunday, October 27, 3 pm, 24 West Street, Norwell. The quartet will perform Haydn’s Op76/No. 5, Mendelssohn’s Op. 44/No. 1 and a brand new work, Quartet #4, “Soliloquy,” written for the quartet by Israeli composer Lior Navok. Guests are invited to join the Quartet after the performance for a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. Sponsored by The Chilman Fund, Eileen Gay and Reed McCarty, Jennifer and Mark McGreenery, Caroline and Ross Nowak, and Kathleen and Michael Vitale.

Each visionary performance of the award-winning Borromeo String Quartet strengthens and deepens its reputation as one of the most important ensembles of our time. Admired and sought after for both its fresh interpretations of the classical music canon and championing of works by 20th and 21st century composers, the ensemble has been hailed for its “edge-of-the-seat performances,” by The Boston Globe, which labeled the quartet “simply the best there is.” Now celebrating its 29th anniversary, the Borromeo String Quartet delights music lovers celebrating more than a quarter century of world-class music programming.

Borromeo String Quartet has performed vast repertoire worldwide and collaborated with many of today’s great composers and performers. Audiences and critics alike have championed Borromeo’s ability to bring fire back to often-heard repertoire, while making even the most challenging new music approachable. The Borromeo continues to be a pioneer in its use of technology, recognized with the trailblazing distinction as the first string quartet to utilize laptop computers on the concert stage, a revealing and transformative experience that they now teach to students around the world. The quartet features Nicholas Kitchen, violin; Kristopher Tong, violin; Luther Warren, viola; and Yeesun Kim, cello. The artists currently maintain residency at New England Conservatory of Music, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Taos School of Music summer program.
