New center slated for South Shore Conservatory’s Hanover campus
McGRATHPR.com – Today South Shore Conservatory (SSC) announced a major gift, one of the largest received to date, from Plymouth residents Diane and Gary Glick. The commitment includes both capital and annual support to establish the Glick Family Center for Creative Arts Therapies at South Shore Conservatory, 135 Webster Street in Hanover. A formal announcement and unveiling of the concept for the space will be held at Laura’s Center for the Arts, 97 Mill Street, Hanover, on June 14.
The Glicks’ contribution to SSC ensures that quality music and arts education and therapies are available to ever person, despite ability or age. The Glick Family Center for Creative Arts Therapies will be designed with input from the certified music therapists on staff, along with students and families. The Center will be built specifically to suit the unique needs of the programs and students including spaces that are adaptable and physically accessible.
Diane and Gary knew they wanted to make a difference in people’s lives from the moment they met 13 year ago. The Glick Family Center for Creative Arts Therapies allows them to combine their love for the arts with the desire to provide support for individuals who may otherwise not have access to these programs. The Glicks believe everyone has the right to experience the power of music, and are proud to help SSC fulfill its mission to provide access to the arts for all South Shore residents, regardless of age or ability.
The state-of-the-art center will be at the heart of a third campus for South Shore Conservatory in Hanover, MA. The campus will join the Ellison Center for the Arts in Duxbury and the Hingham campus, the original home of SSC. The current campuses include suites of arts education facilities with professional studios, classrooms and performance venues. There are currently no plans for a performance venue in Hanover, as SSC has partnered with the South Shore YMCA to use the Laura’s Center for the Arts. Additionally, SSC collaborates with community partners outside of its campuses to provide access to exceptional arts education to underserved communities and individuals on the South Shore.
South Shore Conservatory President Kathy Czerny noted that, “the extraordinary generosity of Diane and Gary Glick is positioning SSC to launch its second half century of providing an exceptional arts education to all South Shore residents, and establishing an incredible facility to better serve those individuals who learn differently.” Czerny continued, “The Glicks have made an important note in their gift that their support is not just the bricks and mortar for the building, but it is the funding to ensure the success of the programs happening every day. SSC is honored to partner with them to honor their legacy.”

A portion of the gift provides annual support to the Creative Arts Therapies (CAT) programs which serve more than 600 individuals throughout the South Shore. Participants in CAT programs include early intervention support, in-home therapy, individual music therapy, group classes, SSC Community Voices choral ensemble, a Parkinson’s Chorus, Memory Cafes and other memory-care work at South Shore assisted living and nursing facilities. The CAT department reaches individuals ages 1-101.

South Shore Conservatory, (SSC) has been providing access to and enriching the lives of South Shore residents through music and the arts for almost 50 years. Recognized as a national model for arts education by the National Guild for Community Arts Education, SSC is the largest, not-for-profit, community school for the arts in Massachusetts, serving over 4500 students of all ages and abilities at two beautiful campuses and in partnership with schools, and social service and community agencies throughout the South Shore. A third campus in Hanover is scheduled to open to the public for classes and programs in the summer of 2020.
Students participate in more than 50 diverse programs in music, dance and drama, with performance playing an important role in overall education. With more than 100 exceptional musicians on faculty, SSC offers over 200 professionally produced concerts annually. Through innovative partnerships, SSC’s Creative Arts Therapies department supports the mental, emotional, and physical health of some of our community’s underserved members, and the ImagineARTS program strengthens pre-reading skills for young learners in Brockton Schools through integrated music and dramatic play.

SSC programs are supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
