Three days of festive musical events for the entire family!
McGRATHPR.com – Under an enchanting tent on the Duxbury Millennium Town Green, at the corner of Washington Street and Harden Hill Road, South Shore Conservatory’s Duxbury Music Festival (DMF) presents the annual DMF Tent Events Weekend from July 19 through 21. With a total of four special and unique events, the weekend promises something to delight all ages and musical tastes. South Shore Conservatory (SSC) thanks Sheila and Richard Morse for sponsoring the tent for the weekend.
On Friday, July 19 at 7 pm, the weekend kicks off with 80’s on the Green with The Waves. Concertgoers are invited to bring their lawn chairs and get ready to enjoy songs from the 80’s to today. These hits are sure to get the crowd on their feet singing and dancing. The Waves, a favorite Boston band, features several Duxbury residents. 80’s on the Green with The Waves is sponsored by Mollie Baldwin Foley.
Children and adults are invited to enjoy the SSC ImagineARTS Band, as they perform songs from SSC’s early childhood arts and literacy program, at DMF’s Family Fest on Saturday, July 20 at 10:30 am. SSC’s ImagineARTS program provides arts-based reading readiness free for kindergarteners in the Brockton Public Schools. Following the performance, attendees may participate in interactive voice, percussion, movement, and theater activities, led by SSC faculty, plus arts and crafts activities, face painting, and enjoy free hot dogs and cake. Family Fest is sponsored by Brothers Marketplace.
On Saturday, July 20 from 7 to 10 pm, DMF presents Americana on the Green, a new event, with drinks, dancing and rock n’ roll featuring SSC’s faculty member Ed Sorrentino and his band jamming to summer rock ‘n roll classics. A raw bar is provided by Island Creek Oysters, and hors d’oeuvres and light bites are compliments of Brothers Marketplace. A fabulous silent auction will be held. Proceeds benefit tuition assistance. Americana on the Green is sponsored Caitlin and Darren Humphreys/Travel Sommelier and Kathy and Warren Skillman.
Sunday in the Park on Sunday, July 21 from 5 to 7 pm, serves as Duxbury’s own Tanglewood. This free concert provides a unique opportunity to gather friends and family and enjoy world-class chamber music performed by DMF faculty and students in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Seating is provided under the tent, or the public may bring lawn chairs and a blanket to spread out on the Town Green. Wine and snacks are available for purchase, or concertgoers may bring their favorite picnic fare. Sunday in the Park is sponsored by Morgan and Greg Lamarche in memory of Barbara Lamarche.
Widely embraced by the South Shore community with over 200 volunteers and over 2500 patrons each season, Duxbury Music Festival’s celebrated, intensive chamber music program brings together world-renowned pedagogues and performers with aspiring young artists each summer, providing daily offerings of chamber music, student recitals, festival competitions, family events and faculty concerts. In keeping with SSC’s inclusive mission to provide access to exceptional arts education and performance – for individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities – DMF presents programs for all segments of the population to enjoy.
