SCITUATE MARINER – South Shore Conservatory announced a summer of educational programs, June 9-Aug. 31 at its Hingham and Duxbury campuses.
Summer@SSC includes in-person, hybrid and virtual individual and group classes.
“We’re thrilled to be back in action with the opportunity for safe in-person programming,” said SSC President Robert Cinnante. “Students can enjoy a summer of learning with friends, while stretching their horizons in both new and traditional creative arts programs. We believe that we can offer students and faculty alike an enriching experience, while keeping their safety front and center.”
Early childhood summer offerings at the Hingham campus include four weeks of Conservatory Kids, which engages students ages 3-5 in artistic, academic and physical activities both indoors and outdoors. From June 14-19, Full STEAM Ahead inspires students ages 5-7 to build, create, experiment, think and work together with science, technology, engineering, art and math. Students ages 5-7 are also invited to join the Peace Reader’s Book Club, a literacy enrichment program where students take a deep dive into engaging literature, from June 21-25. SSC’s Flute Symphony, recognized as the largest ensemble of its kind in the country, returns to the Hingham campus on Wednesday evenings from June 16-July 28. Flutists of all ages and levels are invited to participate.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2021, SSC’s Summer Music Festival offers woodwind, brass, percussion and string students in elementary school through college the opportunity to perform in wind, band, orchestra, chamber and jazz ensembles at the Hingham campus. Running from July 8-23, SMF 2021 features a number of new initiatives including world premieres and new classes, all conducted in a safe environment that prioritizes smaller groups and outdoor rehearsals.
Middle and high school students can participate in Rock Band Jam Aug. 2-6. Students have the chance to experience all the aspects of putting their own band together, including selecting music, composing and arranging, effective rehearsing, and useful stage presence tips. The program connects student rockers to perform their favorite tunes in a full rock band setting.
Families are invited to join in the Family Drum Circle with percussionist Ed Sorrentino on select Sundays at the Hingham campus. Each session encourages teamwork and community-building, while having fun making music. No prior experience is necessary.
At SSC’s Duxbury campus, Piano Week invites pianists, ages 5-18, to explore the subject of music through the lens of the piano. The program explores music theory, music history, composition and songwriting, improvisation and movement, as well as one-on-one lessons, group master classes and performances.
