School marks 19th anniversary milestone at grand opening celebration
McGRATHPR.com – What’s the best way to celebrate a school’s 19th anniversary? To open a new 14-classroom, double playground second campus, according to SELA: The International Private School.
SELA, the region’s only full immersion Spanish school, held a grand opening and ribbon cutting at its newest campus in Norwell last week. The brand new facility currently serves as its second location for its popular School of Early Global Education. SELA’s founder Sandra Baldeon, faculty, staff, and public officials gathered with nearly 100 guests, some current students and families, for the celebration.
“With us, SELA students will become bilingual, critical academic thinkers, and global citizens through our mission and philosophy,” shared Baldeon, as she addressed the crowd. Held in conjunction with SELA’s 19th anniversary celebration, attendees looked on during a presentation ceremony, the official ribbon cutting, and toured SELA’s engaging facilities, while learning about the school’s curriculum model and enjoying family-friendly activities.
Several public officials were present, including State Senator Patrick O’Connor and State Representative David DeCoste, who presented a Senate President-approved citation, scribed to honor the school on the milestone, growth and endurance at the celebration. Norwell Select Board member Andy Reardon and Town Administrator Darleen Sullivan also participated in the event. “Thank you for offering another solid educational choice for all the children of the region. You have a superb reputation and we’re really looking forward to seeing you grow,” shared Rep. DeCoste.
“Every day I look forward to coming to work to see this amazing team and our great families. Seeing our students in the school grow is an amazing feeling, and I’m so proud to be a part of this growing community,” shared SELA Norwell Director of Early Global Education Stacy Dooley.
Situated close to Queen Anne’s Corner (intersection of 228 and 53), set back quietly from the road, SELA’s new location maintains the same quality mission, characteristics, and atmosphere as its flagship Hingham campus. At 17,000 square feet, the Norwell facility spaciously accommodates early childhood programs for students ages 3 months through age 5, in successive infant, toddler, preschool and junior kindergarten groups. Norwell houses fourteen classrooms, administrative offices, two age-leveled outdoor playgrounds and a large indoor play space that offer an expansive environment where children can become creative, confident, and bilingual.
SELA’s School of Early Global education full-immersion Spanish model develops skills in both student native and target languages of Spanish and Mandarin. The highly educated teaching staff, with a bachelor’s degree minimum, strives to nurture each child’s natural cognitive, emotional, and physical growth, setting the stage for successful lifelong learning and social relationships. Lauded for its highly academic curriculum, with strong academic focuses in math, science, social studies, art, music, motor skills, and language, each age-leveled group’s program is custom developed to optimize age-appropriate learning and discovery.
Founded in 2004 in Cohasset as Su Escuela Language Center, the school launched with the goal of preparing English-speaking children to excel linguistically, academically, and socially in global society through instruction in a second and third language. In July of 2011, the academy expanded and opened the doors at its flagship campus in Hingham. Now established as SELA: The International Private School, its educational model has continued to expand, now offering Early Global Education programs for infants through age 5, in addition to the Private Elementary and Middle School programs for Kindergarten through grade 8. Today, with locations in Hingham and Norwell, SELA is the first and only full Spanish immersion school in Southeastern Massachusetts.
