Woodwind quintet Vento Chiaro will perform on March 31 at First Church in Sandwich
THE ENTERPRISE – The Sandwich Arts Alliance will present an evening of music by one of the country’s foremost woodwind quintets, Vento Chiaro, on Friday, March 31, at 7 PM at First Church, 136 Main Street in Sandwich. General admission is $20; tickets are available at www.sandwichartsalliance.org or at the door. The ensemble performs classical as well as more contemporary music from a variety of European and American composers in addition to jazz, Latin and other ethnically influenced arrangements.
The concert will be preceded by a master class and performance earlier in the day for students at the Oak Ridge School.
Vento Chiaro was selected to visit Sandwich not only for its impressive history but because the ensemble places a strong emphasis on breaking down the traditional barriers that exist between performers and audience members.
Vento Chiaro’s mission is to establish the woodwind quintet as a virtuosic ensemble through engaging performances of the highest level of artistic expression, cultivating a sense of community with audience members and collaboratively exploring works of all time periods with particular emphasis on the art of contemporary composers.
Founded at the Peabody Conservatory in 1997 and currently based in Boston, Vento Chiaro has been the woodwind quintet in residence at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute since 2002. Vento Chiaro was the ensemble in residence at the Longy School of Music from 1999 to 2006 and has held short-term residencies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Providence College, Rockport Chamber Festival, The Rivers School Conservatory, Orange County School for the Arts, Virginia Arts Festival and secondary schools throughout the United States.
