McGRATHPR.com – Pilgrim Festival Singers, a select vocal ensemble of Pilgrim Festival Chorus (PFC), presents its four-concert summer series, “American Vignettes – Selections from iconic American musicals”. Performances are at 7:30 pm on Friday, June 17 at First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate; Saturday, June 18 at First Congregational Church, 254 Main Street, Plympton; Saturday, June 25 at Central Congregational Church, 2 Webster Street, Middleborough; and Sunday, June 26 at St. Bonaventure Parish, 801 State Road, Plymouth. The ensemble is conducted by William B. Richter and accompanied by Elizabeth Chapman Reilly on piano, PFC’s artistic directors.
Musical theatre has deep roots in the United States. Over the past century, countless productions have debuted, many centered on the theme of American life. “American Vignettes” offers Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!”, Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man”, and Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story”. In honor of the late Stephen Sondheim’s immense contribution to musical theater, the singers perform a special tribute: “Sondheim! A Choral Celebration”, featuring many of his best-known songs. Audiences will revel in beloved tunes including “Oklahoma,” “76 Trombones,” “Till There Was You,” “Maria,” “There’s a Place for Us,” “Comedy Tonight,” and “Send in the Clowns,” and more. Talented soloists are drawn from the chorus. A must see for musical theatre lovers!
