School opens doors and grounds for family fun
McGRATHPR.com – Old Colony Montessori School (OCMS), the South Shore’s premiere Montessori educational institution since 1963, presents an Open House, from 10 am to 12 noon, and a Fall Fair, from 12 noon to 2 pm, both on Saturday, October 19, at its campus at 247 Gardner Street, Hingham. All families from across the region are welcome to attend both events.
Come one, come all to enjoy a celebration of educational fun and family! OCMS’s Open House welcomes families to learn more about its programs and learning model in the school’s main building. All three multi-aged classrooms, serving young students ages 2.9 to 6, are open for tours and exploration. Teachers are available in a meet and greet atmosphere, welcoming questions about programs. Children are encouraged to visit the playground for some playtime during their visit.
OCMS’s Fall Fair, held on the school’s expansive back field, offers an all-things-family festival of autumn. Seasonal costumes welcome! Jim Armstrong (of the Armstrong Brothers duo) entertains with family-friendly music performed on guitar. Pony rides, arts and crafts, a touch-a-truck exhibit, games and a costume parade round out a delightful afternoon of fun. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, and a cider donut tree is generously provided by Jac’s Cafe of Rockland.

About Old Colony Montessori School
Founded in 1963 by a dedicated group of parents, Old Colony Montessori School (OCMS) is one of the oldest Montessori institutions in the country, and the oldest south of Boston. The school’s mission is to foster learning in the spirit, philosophy and practices set forth by Dr. Maria Montessori more than a century ago, providing a comprehensive growth and developmental experience.
The Montessori method is designed to meet the needs of each individual child. Its treasured characteristics include encouraging students to develop the skills necessary for active and intelligent exploration, a lifelong love of learning, self-discipline, a positive sense of self, creating an environment that allows for optimal learning experiences, community awareness, respect for others, and fostering a passion to embrace all of life with respect and love. Each classroom is prepared with carefully designed Montessori materials that support each child’s innate desire to learn. OCMS students develop a natural love of learning that lasts a lifetime, and approach the world with self-confidence, intellectual curiosity, joy and respect.
