PATRIOT LEDGER – Music will be in the air − and fireworks in the sky − on the South Shore this weekend as live music, local carnivals and hometown celebrations offer a variety of ways to get out with friends and family, even if it’s just to kick back and enjoy a cold one with a cool view.
While Hanover and Milton will be filled with colors from fireworks high above, Hull will glow on the water with its annual Harbor Illumination.
For an escape from the heat, cool off inside as the Pilgrim Festival Chorus performs a selection of Broadway and traditional American songs.
Here are a few highlights of this weekend’s events.
Hanover Day festival, fireworks and carnival
- When: 5-10 p.m. Friday, June 21; 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, June 22.
- Where: B. Everett Hall Field/Sylvester Field, 495 Hanover St.

The two-day event features food trucks, a road race, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a juried art show, a battle of the bands, a classic car show, a vendor craft fair and more.

Milton Music Fest and Fireworks/Celtic Sunday
- When: 5 p.m. Saturday June 22, with fireworks at 9:45 p.m.; 1 p.m. Sunday, June 23.
- Where: Gov. Hutchinson’s Field, 224 Adams St., Milton.

Milton’s 11th annual music fest, fireworks and Celtic Sunday returns this year for another weekend of live music, activities, food and fun.
Saturday kicks off with children’s musician Wayne Potash, followed by Veronica Lewis and headliner the Alex Lucero Band. The fireworks begin at 9:45 p.m.
Sunday’s lineup will feature several area Celtic musicians, including headliners Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones.
Hull Harbor Illumination
- When: 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20.
- Where:Hull Lifesaving Museum, 1117 Nantasket Ave.
- Tickets/admission: Free to attend. $10 for an individual flare, $300 for a “forever flare” that will be lit each year.

More than 1,000 flares with personalized messages light up Hull Harbor each year.
The flares light up at 8:30 p.m., after the Hull Lifesaving Museum’s Coast Guard Commemoration at 5 p.m. and an open house at the museum from 6-8 p.m.
Widowmaker Brewing Co. and Cielo Mexican Restaurant beer garden in Braintree
- When: 4-9 p.m. Friday, June 21; 1-9 p.m. Saturday, June 22.
- Where: Widowmaker Brewing Co., 501 John Mahar Highway, Braintree.

Widowmaker Brewing Co. is hosting its second season of beer gardens featuring bonfires, live music, beer, wine and more. The brewery is partnering with Braintree’s Cielo Mexican Restaurant as its food vendor throughout the month .
Pilgrim Festival Chorus presents ‘Summer Songs: Tunes from Broadway and American Traditions’
- When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22; 4 p.m. Sunday, June 23 (see below).
- Where: The Church of the Pilgrimage, 8 Town Square, Plymouth (June 22); St. Bonaventure Parish, 803 State Road, Plymouth (June 23).

Pilgrim Festival Chorus’ June concerts combine songs about summer with upbeat musical medleys from “Carousel,” “The Lion King” and some of Irving Berlin’s best tunes, along with a special tribute to the late Alice Parker.
