“More than a thousand visitors attend Open Studios annually, it is the highlight of the local arts calendar,” shares Hull Artists President Bart Blumberg. “The artists look forward to sharing their art, while visitors enjoy becoming acquainted with the artists at their studios and designated tour sites. It is a rare opportunity to enjoy such broad diversity in art and artisan crafts while making personal connections with the creators.”
Since 1996, Hull Artists has sponsored the Open Studios Tour, a signature summer art event on the South Shore. Annually 40 exceptional artists showcase original work in their homes, studios and in select community locations, much available for purchase. Visitors experience their work up close and enjoy meeting the artists. The dazzling array of creative media on display includes oil and acrylic, pastel, watercolor, photography, fiber art (quilts, knitting, hand-dyed wearable art), sculpture, up-cycled home goods, basketry, and more. The event is a great opportunity to explore Hull’s hidden treasure neighborhoods, unparalleled ocean vistas and the local retail and restaurant community.
“Hull’s vibrant arts community is one of the state’s largest assets. The Open Studios Tour has been the backbone and lifeline connecting artists with their local community,” shared Blumberg.
In early June, the Open Studios Tour catalog of exhibiting artists and locations map is available in dozens of locations around the South Shore, including Hull Artists’ headquarters at Gallery Nantasket, 121 Nantasket Avenue, Hull (on the ground floor of the Ocean Place Condominium retail shops), and online at hullartists.com.
Founded in 1995, Hull Artists is dedicated to promoting and supporting the locally produced fine art and artisan crafts of its members. Its Gallery Nantasket exhibits a full range of fine art works, rotated quarterly, including painting media (oil, acrylic, watercolor), pastels, pencil drawings, photography, as well as artisan-crafted jewelry, fiber and fabric arts, clothing, wreaths, baskets, pottery, cards and more. The artists express their creativity through a variety of materials, including leather, fiber, wood, metal, canvas, glass, clay, paper and shells, many of which are inspired by the land and seascapes of the beautiful seaside community. Visitors are always greeted by a Hull Artist member at the gallery desk who is well versed in each exhibitor’s work on display.
