McGRATHPR.com – The second annual Easter Family Service will be held in the chapel at Pilgrim Congregational Church (PCC) on Sunday, April 21, 8:30 am at 533 Rte. 28, Harwich Port. The family-friendly service is open to the entire Cape Cod community. An Easter egg hunt welcomes all on the lawn immediately following the service, at about 9:15 am.
PCC’s Easter Family Service welcomes entire families – parents gathered together with their children from age 15 months to 9 years – for an age-appropriate celebration of the Easter holy day. Attendees enjoy a casual atmosphere where Music Director Matt Scinto engages the congregation in learning a song, followed by a service led by parish minister Reverend Susan Cartmell. Prayers and responses, including The Lord’s Prayer, are followed by family candle lightings to commemorate loved ones, as an offering for the stick, or a family member that is ill or who has recently passed. Additional prayer and songs are shared by all, engaging those of every age in the celebration. A favorite facet unfolds when Reverend Cartmell gathers the children for a spiritual storytelling of The Easter Story. Children enjoy sticker art for their own Easter day creation. Following the service, children are presented with a take-home treat and are encouraged to participate in the Easter egg hunt on the parish’s expansive grassy lawn.
“The service welcome families with children to enjoy a gathering with songs that are easy to sing, and liturgy that communicates at their children’s comprehension level, but is also meaningful to adults,” shares Reverend Cartmell. “The chapel has lovely stained glass with the sun shining in most mornings.” She emphasizes the effort to ensure that everyone feels welcome and involved. “Bible readings are taken from the Children’s Bible. Some kids follow along, others just listen. Some walk around or crawl in the aisles. It is all good!”
