Exhibit Traces Cape’s Civil War-Era History

THE ENTERPRISE – Pilgrim Congregational Church (PCC) has created an original exhibit titled “History of Pilgrim Church and Abolitionists on Cape Cod,” an interactive display in its church sanctuary at 533 Rte. 28, Harwich Port. 

The exhibit welcomes visitors to explore the history of the abolitionist movement on Cape Cod and learn more about the church’s history. Learn about Jonathan Walker (known as the Man with the Branded Hand), Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and how Cape Cod served as a sanctuary for many during Civil War era. The display also features documents and information about the founding of the church, and includes a self-guided tour through the church sanctuary and how it has evolved over the last 160 years.

An opening reception with refreshments will be held on the church lawn on July 7 at 11:30 AM following PCC’s 10 AM morning worship service.  The exhibit remains open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM through August 30. Admission is free.
