PATRIOT LEDGER – To ring in the festive season, a holiday marketplace, musical performances and an art exhibit are scheduled at the James Library and Center for the Arts.
The Holiday Marketplace will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday Dec 7. Artisans on three floors of the James will offer pottery, soaps, culinary creations, textiles, jewelry, writing instruments, specialty dog foods and treats for holiday gift giving. This season’s craftspeople include Wisdom River Designs Jewelry, Carberry Kitchen, Sirenetta Chocolatier, Tiny Forest Soap Company, Fire Garden Pottery and Hedgehog Belly Designs.
The Holiday Marketplace is sponsored by Coastal Heritage Bank, HUB International and the Liz McCarron Team at William Raveis. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door.
An opening reception for “Homebody,” a show of soft sculptures made from recycled and found objects, by Hanna Washburn, will take place on Friday, Dec. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit runs through Jan. 25.
The Kevin Harris Project will perform classic jazz standards, holiday music interpretations and original music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $15 for students.
The library will also host a Best Books of 2019 for Children event at 7 p.m. Thursday Dec. 5 at Buttonwood Books and Toys, 747 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Cohasset. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation will start at 7 p.m. Shelley Sommer, Inly School librarian, author and national book reviewer, will present her top picks for holiday gifts at this program. Admission is free.
