PATRIOT LEDGER – People can see the work of 35 accomplished artists in their studios at dozens of locations around town on Saturday and Sunday.
It’s the 24th annual Open Studios Tour, sponsored by the Hull Artists, a regional group of about 90 artists. A second tour is scheduled for Aug. 16-18.
Visitors can tour 23 studios and view the work of South Shore artists. Paintings, drawings, photography, jewelry, painted furniture, pottery and other mediums will be on display.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gallery Nantasket, 121 Nantasket Ave. Select studios will be open for tours from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Most studios and private homes will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
At every stop on the self-guided tour, artists will set up projects they are working on and completed pieces will be for sale. This year’s Open Studios Tour will be the largest yet, organizers said. While a lot of artists will have their own personal studios open to the public, other artists, like Heather Martin, will be showing their artwork in small groups at local spaces.
Martin’s detailed ocean life ceramics will be on display at the Hull Life Saving Museum. This is Martin’s first year participating in Open Studios.
“I was thrilled by how welcoming the artistic community is,” Martin said. “Everyone celebrates everyone else. It’s really fantastic.”
Hull Artists was founded in 1995. The organization works to bring artists together and showcase their work around town.
“The Open Studio Tour is the backbone of the organization,” said Bill Smyth, an original member of the group.
