Week-long programs in-residence at Stonehill College in July
McGRATHPR.com – South Shore Children’s Chorus (SSCC) announces open registration for its summer programs in-residence at Stonehill College in Easton. Two non-auditioned programs for young singers are held from July 15 through 19, 9 am to 3:30 pm, under the direction of founding Artistic Director Kirsten Oberoi. Families that register by April 15 receive a $25 early bird discount on tuition.
SSCC’s Summer Chorale program educates singers entering grades 4 through 7 this fall. Students spend each morning learning choral music and vocal techniques with the aid of top-notch music educators, and spend afternoons learning musical notation reading skills, and bonding through team building activities. Summer Chorale engages in repertoire appropriate for young treble voices, with an emphasis on vocal technique, ear training and choral rehearsal skills.
The Summer Choral Intensive, for singers entering grades 8 through 12, or just graduating from high school, is a program that focuses on themes of leadership, personal responsibility and musical excellence. Students are encouraged to prepare for participation with learning tools provided by SSCC staff to aid them in performing high-level choral repertoire. Students attend sight singing classes geared for their level of knowledge, enjoy guest speakers including local professors and professional musicians, benefit from group sectionals, and engage in a vocal technique class with a professional section leader of their specific voice range.
A program culminating finale concert featuring all students, open to the public, is performed on Friday, July 19 at 7 pm on campus.
South Shore Children’s Chorus was founded in 2016 by colleagues Kirsten Oberoi and Carey Shunskis. SSCC debuted with choral classes for singers in grades pre-K through grade 9. In July of 2016, SSCC founded its annual summer programs, and shortly after initiated an Advanced Choir serving high school aged singers in grades 8 to 12. SSCC has collaborated with several music organizations including The Treble Chorus of New England, Genesis Chamber Singers, Quincy Choral Society and Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. In September 2018, South Shore Children’s Chorus expanded to a secondary rehearsal site in Sharon.
South Shore Children’s Chorus’s mission is to provide quality musical education and vocal training to students living in the South Shore communities and beyond. SSCC reveres the development and well-being of its students as a top priority, aiming to create a safe space and loving community for choristers to learn, grow and to find their own voice. Its programs serve dedicated, responsible singers ages 4 to 18 who are interested in a well-rounded choral education. SSCC is passionate about access for all chorister students, regardless of financial situation. Need-based tuition assistance is available by application.
