Multigenerational play-in at Laura’s Center for the Arts
McGRATHPR.com – South Shore Conservatory (SSC) invites ukulele players of all ages and levels to grab their ukes and strum along at their first South Shore Ukulele Festival, on Saturday, April 20, from 1 to 3 pm at Laura’s Center for the Arts at the South Shore YMCA, 97 Mill Street, Hanover.
“SSC has been offering ukulele lessons at multiple partner locations for a number of years: from elementary schools to senior centers. Everyone loves this instrument,” explains Senior Director of Community Engagement Anne Smith. “We felt it was time to bring all the players together for a huge multigenerational jam session and open it up to the community. Our collaboration with South Shore YMCA’s Laura’s Center for the Arts allows us to do this in a beautiful central location. We are spreading the uke love!”
SSC Ukulele teacher, Juli Morgan, will lead participants from the stage. Music will be projected on a screen so everyone can follow along. Morgan runs ukulele classes at South Shore Vocational Technical School, and the Hingham and Norwell Senior Centers. South Shore Conservatory also offers after-school ukulele classes at Inly School, Chapman Farm School and the Algonquin Heights Affordable Housing Complex.
Beginner through experienced ukulele players are welcome to participate. The cost is $10 per person or $25 per family, payable online at www.sscmusic.uke or at the door the day of the festival. South Shore Conservatory
South Shore Conservatory, (SSC) has been providing access to and enriching the lives of South Shore residents through music and the arts for almost 50 years. Recognized as a national model for arts education by the National Guild for Community Arts Education, SSC is the largest, not-for-profit, community school for the arts in Massachusetts, serving over 4500 students of all ages and abilities at two beautiful campuses and in partnership with schools, and social service and community agencies throughout the South Shore. Students participate in more than 50 diverse programs in music, dance and drama, with performance playing an important role in overall education. With more than 100 exceptional musicians on faculty, SSC offers over 200 professionally produced concerts annually. Through innovative partnerships, SSC’s Creative Arts Therapies department supports the mental, emotional, and physical health of some of our community’s underserved members, and the ImagineARTS program strengthens pre-reading skills for young learners in Brockton Schools through integrated music and dramatic play.
