Variety of youth theatre programs offered in America’s Hometown
McGRATHPR.com – Americana Theatre Company’s (ATC) Studio Americana youth performing arts classes are now open for Spring 2019 registration. Classes are held the week of April 1 through the end of May, held at Spire Center for Performing Arts, 25 ½ Court Street, Plymouth.
Aspiring elementary school aged actors are welcome to a Musical Theatre class. Students enjoy the opportunity to learn a song in the musical theatre style, including basic vocal mechanics, character development and song comprehension. Performers portray their song selection in a showcase performance at the end of the spring season, date TBA. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 6 to 7 pm.
Elementary students are also welcome to enroll in performing a full-scale production of the popular story The Legend of Mulan. In a small village far from the Golden Imperial Palace, a young girl dreams that she can use her skills of horseback riding and sword-fighting. She wonders: “What if birds swam and fish flew?” When the Emperor announces that all families must provide a male soldier to the army, Mulan is horrified. Her father is too old to fight! Mulan’s ancestors tell her to disguise herself and embark on a long journey with Dragon Imoogi and Pika the Rabbit. She learns that her special skill is to fight with her mind and her heart – yin and yang! Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 6 pm. Performance date TBA.
Middle and high school students have the opportunity to learn Film Editing in a new class offering this spring. Participants learn and engage in all stages of filmmaking post-production. Students work together to edit existing raw footage into a full-scale movie. The class’s finished piece debuts at a red-carpet movie premiere, date TBA.
Programs for grade school aged students for summer, including productions of Treasure Island and Footloose, are now available for registration at the Americana Theatre Company website.
Studio Americana’s mission is to develop talent, inspire creativity, and prepare students to activate their dreams. They offer premiere training in theatre and musical theatre for students at affordable rates.
