HINGHAM Hingham author Martha Reardon Bewick will speak about her new book “Tranquility Grove: The Great Abolitionist Picnic of 1844.” Held in Hingham and attended by an estimated 10,000 people, including Frederick Douglass, the event marked the 10th anniversary of the end of slavery in the British West Indies and was widely celebrated by abolitionists calling for an end to slavery in the United States. NORWELL Warren Winders and Geoffrey Day of the Sea Run Brook Trout Coalition will speak about the “salter” brook trout that gave rise to America’s first sport fishery during the 1800s. Their habitat has been so degraded by dams and pollution in coastal waterways that only a few survive, but restoration work is underway.
