THE PATRIOT LEDGER – Whether one’s perfect summer day is relaxing and soaking up the sun while listening to live music or finding ways to escape the heat, such being entertained inside a cool theatre, the South Shore will not disappoint.

Here’s some of the highlights and happenings coming over the next few months.

Food Truck Days in Hanover, Kingston, Weymouth and Norwell

The South Shore Food Truck Association returns with another summer of weekly food truck days in several South Shore towns. The lineup of food trucks, vendors, musicians and activities changes each week at each location. The locations, dates and times are:

• Food Truck Tuesday in Hanover: 4-7 p.m. every Tuesday through September at Forge Pond Park, 253 King St., Hanover.
• Food Truck Thursday in Kingston: 4:30-8 p.m. every Thursday through September at Hilltop Athletic Association, 65 Pottle St., Kingston.
• Food Truck Friday in Weymouth: 5-8 p.m. every Friday through September at Weymouth Town Hall, 75 Middle St., Weymouth.
• Ford Truck Friday Lunch in Weymouth: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday through September outside South Shore Hospital, 55 Fogg Road, Weymouth
• Food Truck Friday Lunch in Norwell: 11 a.m.-noon every Friday through September outside South Shore Medical Center, 143 Longmeadow Drive, Norwell.

Mammoth March at Wompatuck State Park

When: Time slots begin at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, June 1

Where: Wompatuck State Park, 204 Union St., Hingham

Mammoth March, which organizes 8-hour 20-mile hikes around the country, is organizing an event at Wompatuck State Park. Participants can sign up for a number of time slots. The event coincides with the 2024 National Trails Day. Aid/refreshment stands will be set up along the hiking route. Widowmaker Brewing Co. and Cielo Mexican Restaurant June beer gardens in Braintree

When: Each Friday (4-9 p.m.) and Saturday (1-9 p.m.) in June

Widowmaker Brewing Co. is hosting its second season of beer gardens featuring bonfires, live music, beer, wine and more. The brewery is partnering with Braintree’s Cielo Mexican Restaurant throughout the month as its food vendor.

The Company Theatre in Norwell presents the play ‘Rave On’

When: 8 p.m. Friday, June 7

Inspired by some of the most influential music of the ’50s and ’60s, “Rave On” will take you back in time when rock ‘n’ roll was emerging and the jukebox and dance floor were all that was needed for a good time. Talented singers and musicians celebrate the music of Buddy Holly, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Etta James, Richie Valens, Bobby Darin, Johnny Cash, Dion and other artists.

‘Carnival of the Animals’ is music and animal fun at Hingham’s Weir River Farm

When: 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8

Members of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra will perform the 25-minute suite “Carnival of the Animals” at Weir River, which will be followed by an opportunity to get to know both the instruments and the animals at the farm, which includes flocks of sheep, goats, chickens, giant Flemish rabbits and piglets.

Attendees can bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on. A rain date is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9.

Free admission as part of the Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture Program for those with EBT and WIC cards. Guests may be asked to present their card for verification. Two tickets per card.

The Company Theatre in Norwell presents Divas with a Twist concert

When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11

Divas with a Twist features five powerhouse female vocalists (who met at The Company Theatre) backed by high-energy, Grammy nominated musicians. Performing with a unique blend of vocals combined with new arrangements to pop favorites, classic rock, Motown and originals, the Divas do not disappoint.

A silent auction fundraiser and exhibition in Norwell

When: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 16 (opening reception party and fundraiser). On view June 21-Aug. 9

Events celebrating the 150th anniversary of the James Library & Center for the Arts include a birthday party and opening reception, special exhibition and a silent auction fundraiser featuring the work from nine accomplished and award-winning artists that make up the group “Girls Just Wanna Paint.”

The artistic group Girls Just Wanna Paint will present their members’ renderings of the James Library & Performing Arts Center in Norwell as part of its 150th anniversary celebration.

In keeping with the 150th celebration, each of the group’s will create a piece of art using their individual perspective and style to capture images from in and around the James. Each of these pieces will be offered up for auction during the silent auction that runs from June 21 to Aug. 9. All of the artists will also be exhibiting work of their own, which will also be on view and available for purchase.

Pilgrim Festival Chorus presents ‘Summer Songs: Tunes from Broadway and American Traditions’ in Plymouth

Free Quincy concert series: Music from the ’60s and ’70s

When: June 26, 1 to 7 p.m.

Where: Hancock Adams Common.

Attendants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, though seating will be provided in the form of chairs, tables and tents, according to a city press release.

In addition to nearby street parking, there are two parking garages in downtown Quincy, one at Presidents Place and the other at Kilroy Square. The concert is accessible by public transportation, as the Hancock Adams Common is right next to the Quincy Center T station.

Americana Theatre Company presents ‘Murder on the Orient Express’

When: July 5-21 at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks as it travels from Istanbul to Western Europe. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for occupancy in 1934, but it has one fewer passenger by the next morning. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer.

The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual event includes a duck race, live entertainment, arts and crafts show featuring over 200 exhibitors, local nonprofits and the annual Motor Head’s Cruise-In Car Show and so much more.

The Kerry Jon Walker Fund End of Summer Jamboree in Hull

When: 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, rain or shine

The nonprofit Kerry Jon Walker Fund is dedicated to helping humanity and supporting those affected by poverty. All proceeds from the event support the fund’s mission, including mission service trips for teens supporting sustainable programs to improve health, education and economic opportunity for those in need.

Attendees can shop for one-of-a-kind African and Navajo gifts at an international market, bid on unique art and assorted goods.

The day includes a petting zoo, entertainment by ‘World Music Award’ winners Kalifa & Koliba, catering by Mae’s of Marshfield and a beer and wine bar.

Admission and auction purchases may be paid for by cash, check and credit card on site.
