No one understands and appreciates a landscape quite like someone who was born and raised there. Dianne Panarelli Miller is an award-winning, homegrown artist, celebrating over 40 years of painting across the South Shore and beyond. Her work is included in regional, national, and international collections.
This is Dianne’s first solo show since 2019, showcasing new and intimate paintings of locations spanning Boston to Cape Cod, captured on canvas in Dianne’s signature style.
World renowned Artist Dianne Panarelli Miller is an award-winning, Boston-based “plein air painter” of color and light. She is a signature member of the New England Plein Air Painters, a “Copley Master” at the Copley Society in Boston and a juried member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City.
The History of the Baker Chocolate Company – with Anthony Sammarco

Local historian Anthony Sammarco details the delicious saga of Massachusetts’s Baker Chocolate Company, from Hannon’s mysterious disappearance and the famed La Belle Chocolatière advertising campaign to cacao bean smuggling sparked by Revolutionary War blockades.
Both bitter and sweet, this tale is sure to tickle your taste buds. In 1765, Dr. James Baker of Dorchester stumbled upon Irishman John Hannon crying on the banks of the mighty Neponset River. Hannon, though penniless, possessed the rare skills required to create chocolate, a delicacy exclusive to Europe, and Baker, with pockets bursting, wished to make a name for himself Using a mill powered by the same river upon which they met, the duo built America’s oldest and most beloved manufacturer of this rich treat.

What We Carry is an ongoing photographic investigation of sustained vigilance as a source of trauma. Portraits of women and gender non-conforming individuals with what is physically carried for protection serve as a point of entry for conversations surrounding self-preservation, collective trauma, and recent gender-based legislation.
In our current political climate, personal weaponry is a charged and polarizing topic. What We Carry contains difficult images, including portraits of individuals with guns. This project engages with the nuances and subtleties of weapon ownership, including the paradox of purchasing the very weapons used to target your own community.
Quincy-based Artist Kayleigh MacDonald mediums originate in the fields of fine art and documentary photography, performance, and land-based alternative photographic processes. She creates pictures informed by identity and established on a matriarchal memory; “I think everything I make comes back to Her. Working across a range of photographic processes, I use my image-making to confront concepts of feminine history, the body, and nature’s influence through self-portraits, images of family, process-based landscapes, and documentary work.”

Greater Boston Paranormal Associates’ team of individuals share interest in the paranormal – both believers and skeptics. Every Bostonian has walked through the Public Garden and enjoyed the beauty of the first botanical garden in the country. Learn the untold stories of its history and look at both natural and man-made features. The various statues and monuments: Make Way for Ducklings, George Washington, and the Ether Monument will be included in this tour along with a look at the planting design and some of the outstanding plantings. The 19th-century plan for the lagoon and the iconic Swan Boats will be included along with ongoing care and plans for the Public Garden, an oasis of beauty in the middle of our city. Presenter Rose Doherty has been delivering Osher Lifelong Learning Institute presentations since 2015.

To the Moon and Back, Inc.
Come one, come all for a musical spin on the beloved game of bingo, with To the Moon and Back’s “Drag Singo” benefit fundraiser, at Hotel 1620 in Plymouth, MA for Drag Bingo, on Friday, October 13, 6 to 10 pm, at Hotel 1620, 180 Water Street, Plymouth. All proceeds benefit the Plymouth-based nonprofit, which provides statewide support to children born opiate-dependent with neonatal abstinence syndrome, and their families.
In “Drag Singo,” South Shore Queenz drag artists Genesis, Khloe Glamoure, and Bianca Knight are the nights’ entertainment. These queens have been performing together for years throughout New England, even winning pageants along the way! They serve glamour, humor, and a whole lotta sass, making for a fun and entertaining evening out. DJ Roger Leary lends his sound skills to ramp up the exciting music.
In “Drag Singo,” players receive a bingo card featuring popular song titles. The drag artist hosts spur DJ Roger to play random song clips of the “recognizable parts” of each tune. Players are encouraged to sing along, identify and match song titles on their cards, play to win cash!
Founded in 2017, advocacy nonprofit To the Moon and Back, Inc. (TTMAB), is dedicated to supporting children born with in utero substance exposure and their families, founded by Theresa Harmon, RN, LICSW. As a certified 501(c)3, TTMAB has served as the leader in providing support, education, and advocacy for the youngest victims of the opioid epidemic, and those who care for them. The organization’s mission is committed to forging one voice as advocates for children.

In support of the communities affected by the recent Maui wildfire disaster, Friends in Song a cappella vocal ensemble presents a benefit concert. All proceeds directly benefit the Maui Strong Fund, launched by the Hawai’i Community Foundation (#MauiStrongFund). The concert is sponsored by Michelle McGrath PR.
“Friends for Maui” features a program of uplifting songs selected to inspire hope in the wake of the tragic Maui wildfire devastation, stirring audiences and singers alike. Diverse repertoire is united by a “hope for the future” mindset, conveyed through inspirational performances. The concert subtitle, ‘Starting All Over,’ is derived from the recent issued cover tune of Oahu-native American Idol winner Iam Tongi’s original song “Starting All Over Again,” a support anthem to raise awareness for the cause, the charities those in need, and to benefit Tongi’s greater Hawaiian community. Friends in Song performs its own arrangement of this tune during this concert. Together, we are stronger!
Friends in Song is an ensemble of 15 vocalists, many professional musicians, who have performed together in friendship and harmony for 13 years. The group is recognized across the region for their tightly woven harmonies and joyous concerts. Singers reside across Boston’s South Shore, including Diana Barnes, Larry Carlson, Brian Dudley, Lynne Hare, Chris Holl, Kate Holl, Anne Jones, Dan Miot, Michelle McGrath, William Richter, Nathaniel Sides, Kay Slater, Sally Tucker, David Tyler, and Lea Tyler.
All concert proceeds and additional donations support the Maui Strong Fund, which provides financial resources to support the immediate and long-term recovery needs for the people and places affected by the devastating Maui wildfires. To date, nearly $6 million has been awarded to more than 60 verified philanthropic, social service and community agencies supporting the cause.

Concord Women’s Chorus (CWC), fostering the power of women’s voices in song, invites new singers to join its ensemble this fall. Artistic Director and Conductor Jane Ring Frank welcomes newcomers to visit rehearsal and learn more.
Auditions will be held after rehearsal on September 19. Rehearsals continue Tuesday mornings, 9:30 am to 12 noon, also at Trinity Episcopal Church, throughout the 2023-24 season.
CWC welcomes singers with prior choral experience including good sight-reading skills, solid intonation and vocal quality, responsiveness to direction and the ability to blend within an ensemble. For auditions, prospective members may be asked to sight-read a short passage and/or sing a familiar tune, arriving with a prepared solo is not necessary. An information form is available to be printed in advance and brought to the audition at concordwomenschorus.org/wp/sing-with-us. Chorus members are expected to attend rehearsals and to participate in performing scheduled concerts. Longtime Cambridge-based sacred musician and composer Rachel Burckardt, together with Wood Harbor Orchestra, conducted by Elijah Langille, present a concert program of Mass excerpts and other sacred works featuring local contemporary composers including Kelvin Koning, Javier Marquez, Mary Casiello, Sam Crosby-Schmidt, Rachel Burckardt, and Amy Beach (and others). The works feature an orchestra and choir.
A featured work on the program is Missa Misceo, a “Mash Mass” in twelve movements, consisting of excerpts from six Mass works originated by five composers.
St. Cecilia Church is fully accessible with a street-level entrance and elevator access to the main sanctuary. Each (approximately) 90-minute tour explores New England’s distinctive fall harvest season and the sight, sounds and smells of autumn.
Tours launch from Massachusetts Cranberries’ mini education barn in Carver, allowing visitors to delve into learning about historic farm equipment, educational displays and to purchase fresh cranberries and cranberry products on site.
Attendees board chartered school buses and travel up close to an active wet cranberry harvest. Well informed tour guides discuss harvest techniques, farming tactics, and everything there is to know about native cranberries. Bus tours are popular and sell out early. Visitors are advised to book early in the season to enjoy this enjoyable experience with powerful red floating berries, Massachusetts’ official state fruit.
Massachusetts Cranberries also offers large group coach tours for tourism groups and school-age tour programs throughout the year, with low group rates and free parking for buses and vehicles on site.

Choral Art Society of the South Shore (CAS), a welcoming, non-auditioned community chorus, invites new singers to attend the first rehearsals of the fall season. Choral Art Society’s open rehearsals welcome singers in all voice parts. While the chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble, Director Danica Buckley will assist singers with voice part placement. Singers are expected to be able to match pitch, learn and consistently sing their voice part, and balance their voice with other singers. Auditions attendance is free, membership information is available at rehearsal and on the PFC website Pilgrim Festival Chorus (PFC), the region’s volunteer not-for-profit community choral ensemble, seeks new singers for its winter concert season. Artistic Directors William B. Richter and Elizabeth Chapman Reilly welcome newcomers of all skill levels to learn about PFC and audition for vocal placement if they wish. Rehearsals for the fall season from 7 to 9 pm immediately following auditions and continue weekly throughout the season.

Since 1999, PFC has been dedicated to presenting diverse choral works that educate, enrich, and engage both its members and South Shore audiences. More than 80 vocalists of all adult ages fill out the ensemble. Members also perform in smaller volunteer groups engaging in community events. This group of writers meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month. A chapter of a current project is emailed to members of the group, read, and critiqued, and brought to the meeting where it is read aloud and further discussed. Supportive, encouraging, and informative. All are welcome.

Come and enjoy free entertainment for the whole family for PorchFest’s 8th consecutive year, a community-wide celebration of local musical talent. John Pielmeier’s provocative drama “Agnes of God” is a gripping and dynamic showcase for three strong actors – a hit on Broadway and on film. Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist, is charged with assessing the sanity of a novice accused of murdering her newborn. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, determinedly keeps young Agnes from the doctor, further arousing Livingstone’s suspicions. Who killed the infant, and who fathered the tiny victim? Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love, leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.

Tickets: $20 A one-woman theatrical imagining of Kip Tiernan, “Kippy – Pray for the Dead and Fight Like Hell for the Living!” explores the life of social justice hero and founder of Boston’s Rosie’s Place, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Healthcare for the Homeless, The Poor People’s United Fund, and many others.
Kip Tiernan was an extraordinary character and a force of nature who changed the face of social justice in Boston. Passionate and salty-tongued, she engendered outrage and empathy for the plight of poor and homeless women in crisis. Kip founded Rosie’s Place in 1974, the first ever homeless shelter for women in the United States. Written and performed by playwright and Deertrees’ Artistic Director Gail Phaneuf. A modern staging of this Shakespeare classic, set during 1960’s America – a nation in transition, in the real-world city of Athens, Georgia. Serving today as a safe haven for queer and genderqueer persons, in the 60’s, Athens was full of tight-knit townsfolk in one of the most conservative towns in America. The setting transforms the faerie characters from fey spirits to queer and genderqueer aliens, whose interaction with conservative Athens fundamentally changes the city for the better. From the minds of Shakespeare veterans Rob Faucher and Hal St. Louis comes a night of love, magic, and robots unlike anything you’ve seen before. Brace yourselves to experience something otherworldly – the extraterrestrial universe just got a whole lot bigger in this fabulous frolic!

Deertrees’ Salt Lick Café opens two hours before each event, and is home to Deertrees Art Gallery curated by Artist Karen Pettengill. The café offers beer, wine, canned cocktails and a variety of sweet and savory snacks. The Salt Lick Cabaret space has art gallery table seating for up to 65 people, serving as a cozy, intimate space for Deertrees’ smaller performances.
