THE PATRIOT LEDGER – Menorah lighting at South Shore Plaza
BRAINTREE – The Shaloh House Chabad will celebrate the start of Hanukkah with a menorah lighting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, at South Shore Plaza, 250 Granite St., Braintree. The lighting will take place on the lower level of the mall near the Apple store.
Starting at sundown Sunday, Nov. 28, and continuing through Dec. 6, Jewish families will celebrate Hanukkah with a variety of traditions. Hanukkah is the celebration of Maccabean Jews’ restoration of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem in the 2nd century B.C.E. Tradition says the Maccabees had lamp oil for only one night, but the Temple’s menorah lamps stayed lit for all eight nights of the ceremonial rededication.
Sunday’s event will include live music, crafts for children and traditional gelt. For more information, contact rabbi@shalohhouse.com or visit www.shalohhouse.com.
