Nonprofit Falmouth Community Television will host a flea market fundraiser, with selections of gently used and brand-new donated items for sale. Among them: vintage finds, art, furnishings, home decor, kitchen items, games, books, electronics, clothing, accessories, toys, knick-knacks and holiday items. Free popcorn and lemonade will be provided, and shoppers can enter a 50/50 raffle.

West Dennis Library turns 101

Familiar Outer Cape faces in new art exhibit
Truro-based artist and teacher Amy Kandall’s new exhibit “Movers, Shakers, and Makers” will have its opening reception on Friday, then be on view in Provincetown. The exhibition features approximately 30 large-scale portraits of Outer Cape community members, sometimes well-known, mostly posed in pairs of friends or family. The exhibit’s concept began with a goal to paint a life-size portrait every other day for summer 2021 to document the area’s living history. Subjects include area artists, writers, chefs and elected officials.

Soprano Susan Mitchell sings
Soprano Susan Mitchell will offer a 60-minute performance of “Arias and Songs from Mozart to Bernstein.” Mitchell’s solo performance will range from Bellini’s “Casta Diva” to Bernstein’s “Somewhere.” The concert includes a free-will offering to benefit Helping Our Women, a resource for women on the Outer Cape who are living with chronic or life-threatening conditions.

Maritime museum to reopen with ‘Dennis Women Who Went to Sea’
A new exhibit about “Dennis Women Who Went to Sea” in the 1800s will highlight the grand reopening of the Dennis Maritime Museum at the 1867 West Dennis Graded Schoolhouse. Other exhibits to see while visiting include the 19th-century classroom, a Nobscussett Native American exhibit, and ongoing displays about Dennis’s seafaring legacy. The museum will also be open each Friday in September from 1 to 4 p.m.

Livingston Taylor to perform
Livingston Taylor’s career as a professional musician has spanned over 50 years and 22 albums. Taylor, who will perform two shows in Oak Bluffs, has written top-40 hits, including some recorded by his brother James Taylor, and has appeared with Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac and Jimmy Buffet. Taylor performs a range of musical genres — folk, pop, gospel, jazz — and he peppers his shows with personal stories and anecdotes.

Comedy for a cause
Local comedians are coming together to help raise funds for the Jett Foundation Theo’s Fund to purchase an ADA wheelchair van for a local family. The 18+ comedy night will include a raffle, auction and cash bar. A local anonymous donor will also be matching whatever is raised at the comedy night.

Bosq plays Afro-Latin, disco and more

Dance to unite community
With the goal of bringing the community together, Dance Therapy 508 will hold a free “United We Dance” event offering classes of different dance styles for all ages and abilities, with teachers from Cape Cod and Boston. Styles will include hip hop, African dance, Brazilian capoeira, apothicdance and more. There will be performances by Troupe Mirage of Egyptian belly dance; by Russell “Gutta” Ferguson, season 6 winner of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance”; and Stan Eskapade Karachev. Vendors will offer face-painting, hair braids, items to buy and more. A raffles will support the organization’s educational dance programs.

Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra returns with new interactive format
Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra will kick off its new season — and first live performance in more than 18 months — with “OPEN CCCO,” a new event format combining performance, audience interaction and a behind-the-scenes look into an orchestra rehearsal. The string sections will take the audience through Dvořák’s “Serenade for Strings,” exploring the composer’s American ties and the piece’s noteworthy elements.

The Talking Heads experience, re-created
The musicians of Start Making Sense work to re-create the music from the Talking Heads’ entire career, and bring much of the new-wave art punk band’s unique live show to the stage. Frontman Jon Braun takes on the role of David Byrne.

James Carroll is the author of 12 novels, including “The Cloister,” eight works of nonfiction and most recently “The Truth at the Heart of the Lie,” and will talk about his work at this Wellfleet gathering. For 23 years, he wrote an op-ed column for the Boston Globe, and his work has appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic and other publications. Attendees are invited to bring a lawn chair for seating for this outdoor event.
